split_toe.jpg
ole split toe12393 viewsMonster 8 point buck, 22 inch inside spread. Have yet to have scored although estimated to score between 145 and 150. Deer was 4 1/2 years old. Shot at about 175 yards with a remington .243. About 200 lbs dressed.

side note: got the name split toe due to his tracks left when walking, his claws were always split open, so we started referring to him as "split toe". my father and I had been after this deer for a couple years, along with about 7 other guys who hunt the land. very elusive buck.

Henry_s_big_Northern_Pike.jpg
Henry's Big Northern!727 viewsMy eight year old son Henry caught this 37 inch Northern Pike while fishing in north eastern Indiana. He used a $1.99 spinner lure that was purchased at the local video/ice cream parlor. Henry thought he was snagged in a lily pad field, but it was his largest fish ever! After reeling in for about 30 minutes from the paddle boat, he almost broke the lake record! bkrause

2006 Rifle Buck1922 viewsThis buck was taken in Western Wisconsin on opening day of Rifle Season in November 2006. The 10 point buck had a 16" spread and weighed 175 pounds field dressed. This was a very special hunt, as my girlfriend was there to share the hunt with me. She is now quite the hunter herself!! A well-placed shot from my Remington 700 Mountain Rifle put him down. Believe it or not, this deer ran over 300 yards after being double-lunged. Thank God it was TOWARD the truck!!!Puckplayer_33

Indiana Whitetail 215lbs 9pts killed 10/22/08 Lewis, Indiana1304 views

On Wednesday 10/22/08 I was late getting into the woods at about 5:45pm. I did not use a tree stand. I found a couple nice rubs and decided to stand in front of a big oak tree that was on the edge of a hill. I decided to do the fawn bleet call as I had used that a couple days prior and called in several does and a button buck. It was windy so when the wind would stop I would get a chance to use the call. After about 15 minutes I heard movement at the top of the hill which was straight in front of me. I saw what looked like some branches moving. I realized it was a buck. He was coming right towards me. He never noticed me. I had on mossy oak camo from Gander Mountain. The buck came in and went about 10-15 feet to my left. Still not realizing there was anyone around him. I shot him with my Martin Jaguar Magnum bow using carbon arrows and stinger broadheads. I shot him behind his left front leg. We tracked him for about 75 yards in to the dark. We found the arrow broken off. Shortly after that the blood trail stopped. We returned in the morning and found him dead about 40 yards from where we left off. The broadhead had went in on his left side and stuck on the inside of his right arm/shoulder bone. I shot him on some leasing property in Lewis, Indiana (Vigo County) close to the coal mine.

9 Pointer from 2005803 viewsThis was my first buck and second year of deer hunting, after years of waterfowl and upland game. I was using my uncle's .270 Remington 7600, and saw this buck 100 yards out in an open field, following the path a doe had just walked about 10 minutes earlier.goodspeed83

359 viewsI caught this fish this past June on my day off. I was fishing at my grandfathers and was just about to quit and go swimming since it was so hot out. Just using a plastic ringworm I didn't even have the chance to start to jig it when the fish took it. When we 1st weighed it after I caught it it was 10.5lbs. and we took it down to my uncle's sporting goods store and had it electronically weighed and it was 10lbs and about 28 inches. This is by far the biggest laremouth I have ever caught.jbdpayne

LESNER_057.JPG
LESNAR TAKEN BY KO934 viewsFor all you Ultimate Fighting fans, don’t be alarmed, I’m not having a premonition of the upcoming fight on Saturday between Ultimate Fighters Randy Couture & Brock Lesnar, I’m talking about a 27” non-typical whitetail I shot that I named “LESNAR,” after the now famous Brock Lesnar who formerly wrestled for the University of MN. I spotted the massive deer three days before and I thought that with his antler mass and huge body it would only be fit to call him “LESNAR.” My nickname is KO for Kelly Otto, which has just recently changed to Kelly Gustafson. So yes, the headlines are true. I shot a buck named “LESNAR” on November 8th 2008, Opening morning of MN shotgun season! I can honestly say that Deer Management sure has its rewards!

DATE TAKEN: November 8th 2008 @ 7:00AM
TAKEN BY: Kelly Gustafson
ORIGINAL POINTS: 27
SCORE ABLE POINTS: 20
NON-TYPICAL GREEN SCORE: 202 5/8”
WEIGHT: 200LBS
